A maximum of three cups in a day is enough for maximum benefit, but children will have to skip out on this natural remedy.
    • Onions – this natural asthma remedy has anti-inflammatory properties that reduce airway constriction during an asthma attack. Raw onions are a pain to eat because they irritate mucus membranes so it’s best to eat them cooked. The cooking process will not diminish their anti-inflammatory effects.
    • Chili peppers – hot food like chili peppers have been observed to open up airways, making it easier for you to breathe by stimulating fluid production in the lungs, throat, and mouth. This in turn thins out mucus formations if you’re having an asthma attack, so you can easily cough them up. Capsaicin, the component that makes chili peppers hot, also has anti-inflammatory properties.
    • Orange juice – the vitamin C that you find in orange juice is the primary antioxidant found in the linings of the bronchi and bronchioles. Getting at least 300 mg of the vitamin, which is equivalent to around three glasses of OJ, cuts wheezing by as much as 30%. Other foods you can get vitamin C from include strawberries, blueberries, broccoli, papaya, and red bell peppers.
    • Cheesecloth – it’s going to look a little funny but this homemade filter does a good job of trapping pollen, animal dander, and dust before they recirculate in a room. But better than having a good air filter is having a clean house. Keeping everything clean is one natural remedy for asthma (even bordering on obsessive) that will go a long way in alleviating asthma symptoms.
